St-Jacobskerk, middeleeuwse vroeggotische kerk
Deze monumentale kerk werd in 1240 opgericht uit de oude parochiekerk van Sint-Salvators. Ze moest dienen als nieuwe parochiekerk nabij de ezelpoort (vroeger ook sint-jacobspoort genoemd). Kort daarna werd de kerk omgevormd tot een vroeggotische kruiskerk en twee eeuwen later verder omgebouwd tot de driebeukige kerk van vandaag. Verder sporen van de vroeggotische periode zijn te vinden in de torenblok van de kerk. Deze dateert uit de 13e - 14e eeuw.

This monumental church was founded in 1240 from the old parish church of St.Salvators.
St. Jacobs church : Early Gothic medieval church.
It was meant to serve as a new parish church near the Ezelpoort.
Shortly after the church was transformed into an early Gothic cruciform church and two centuries later further converted to the three-aisled church as we know today.
Further traces of the early Gothic period can be found in the tower block of the church, which dates from the 13th - 14th century.
