A Friendly Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a plastic food storage container containing family friendly swag. FTF can grab the trackable and send it on its merry way!

The cache is located on the property of a Quaker Meetinghouse. Parking is available in the front parking lot on 6th Street. Please do not park in the back lot off of Church Street as that lot is rented out to other parkers.

As this cache is located on private property, please be respectful of the grounds and the building. You have the permission of Friends (more popularly known as Quakers) to park in the front parking lot and look for the cache anytime, but please be mindful that on Sunday mornings between the hours of 10:00 and 11:30, people will be worshiping in the meeting house, so please be extra respectful if caching at that time.

This cache sits on historic ground. Many people may not realize this, but Reading’s first religious building—a humble, small log edifice—was a Quaker Meetinghouse. A couple decades later, in 1776, the meetinghouse was turned into a hospital for wounded Hessian soldiers who were captured by the Continental Army at the Battle of Trenton. As the Quaker presence in Reading increased, so did their need for a more permanent building, so in 1868 a stone meetinghouse was built. It is near this building that the cache is located. Since this meetinghouse was built, it has been used as a Red Cross headquarters during World War I, a Boy Scouts headquarters, and a refuge for many other groups whose values align with those of Friends.
