Yerranderie is an old silver mining ghost town, abandoned in the thirties. It lies only 100km from the heart of Sydney, but is artificially isolated due to it being located on the western side of Lake Burragorang.
The township and surrounding mining area is spread over a large area with lots to see and do. In the early 1900’s the area housed some 2000 people hoping to strike it rich. Nowadays the area is home to less than a handful of people who are slowly restoring the “Private Town” to its former glory.
If (when) you decide to do this cache please plan your trip carefully. This is an isolated area and suited to 4WD’s only. There are no shops or petrol stations for miles around. Some vehicles may need to carry addition fuel and all should have plenty of provisions for a 2-day trip. There are plenty of camping spots in the area with only some attracting a fee. Tank water is available, but shouldn’t be relied upon.
While here, take the time to visit the "Private Town" and nearby "Silver Peak Mine".
The cache itself contains all the usual stuff, including a logbook and pen. It is located in an area of high wind detection. All cachers should be aware of low flying objects.
