Geocache Description:

IMPORTANT NOTES. Pay attention to the ratings, this potentially involves some steep climbs and trecherous decents. A lot of loose rocks and branches require constant attention. Likely not a suitable hike for children or those with bad knees (like me). Also be aware that Sussex County New Jersey has many bears and poisonous snakes. Be alert! If you know what to do if you have an encounter, you will enjoy exploring one of the greatest natural resources in Northwest New Jersey.

This cache is located further along the ridge of this section of the Sparta Mountains from "TRL Knee Knuckler 1". It is a beautiful section of land.

Eventually, there will be an easier route to this cache. The historic floods of August 2000 washed away the Sparta Glen park and the trailhead area. The town is still working to clean everything up, until then the normal trailhead is off limits. I will change this post as soon as the town opens the main trailhead (expected soon). In the meantime, I recommend you park here N41 02.739; W074 37.167.

From this spot you have a steep ascent up some very technical landscape. Be alert, as at times you will be climbing loose rock through plenty of poison ivy and poison oak. You will eventually meet up with the trail at approximately N41 02.665; W074 37.036. From this point, try to follow the trail (it's difficult as it fades in and out) to N41 02.840; W074 36.883 as here it becomes a bit more distinct. If you find the right path up the hill, you can knock a star and a half off the terrain rating.

The cache is placed just off of this trail in a traditional Highlands hide format.

The cache is a 30mm ammo can. It has the usual trinkets and goodies. Good luck and get the ice bags ready for those knees when you get home!
