Geocache Description:

The cache is about 500m from the car park at Slipper Lowe, N 53 40.664 W 00230.639

Hollinshead Hall was the manor house to the village of Tockholes. The ruins are 18th and 19th century but evidence suggests that the Hollinshead family owned a property here as early as the 14th century.
In 1845 the hall was sold to mill owner Eccles Shorrock but by the end of the century it had fallen into disrepair. Restoration was started in 1983 and the site is now maintained by the West Pennine Moors Countryside Service.
The Well House is the only remaining complete building. There is a supposition that it could be a holy spring or a wishing well with magical properties. It was believed at ine time that the water was a cure for certain eye diseases. It is also thought to be haunted, so maybe best not to go at night - you never know who might be about!
There is a good cafe and info centre at Ryal Fold approx. 1 mile north.
