Out of Augusta, Montana...towards Sun River Canyon...downstream from the Willow Creek Reservior Dam...
Legend has it that a beast inhabits this area below the Dam of Willow Creek Reservior. The creature sought refuge here as the Dam was built and fishermen increasingly came to the area. The beast originally fed on fish that came down the stream, but as years went by and cattle showed up in the area, he changed his diet to weak and slow cows. The creature, it is said, feeds only on flesh. You will find bones of past meals in the area. Every year, ranchers bring their cattle to graze this area for the summer...and every fall, not every cow goes home...To the beast, geocachers flesh is no different than any other...watch your back...Sightings of the beast are very rare, however tracks of the beast are everywhere, so he is there. From Augusta, Montana, head towards Sun River Canyon. Travel on this road about 3 1/2 miles and there will be a road to the right, at the bottom of a hill, that heads to your right(north)...follow this road about 1 1/2 miles and you will see the WILLOW CREEK RESERVIOR Fishing Area sign on your right. Check your odometer and go about .4 of a mile...there will be a road that veers off to your right (south)...go about .1 of a mile and you will see a corral and cattle loading area. If you have a small car, you might want to stop here and walk. If you have a larger, higher clearance vehicle, you may continue on....the gravel road ends, but you can head to your left here, around the small fenced area and see a vehicle "trail"...follow this and your GPS...it will lead you. Once you leave your vehicle, beware of the warnings given about the Dam Monster. He is elusive...and hungry. Please report any sightings....If..You...RETURN.....
