A roadside memorial that caught
our eye as we drove past.
This is the site of a number of
buildings, the remains of which now only consist of some rubble and
concrete foundations.
Firstly, there was the Willow Bank School and the Woods Flat
Institute, both opened in 1919.
The school only lasted until 1934 before it was closed.
The Institute was around until its demolition in 1974.
A second school was erected here – appropriately named
“The Second Woods Flat School” - in 1939. This time it
was closed in 1945.
The foundation stone was (I presume) recovered from either the
school or the institution and commemorates the official opening by
G.R. Aldridge, Esq. After whom the cache is named. (I just love the
title “Esquire” and have often wondered how one goes
about getting one?)
The cache is an ammo container. There is a NON
trackable coin in there for the first
finder.
