We hope to set a series of caches accessible from the Dean Forest
Railway, and this is the first.
Lydney Junction is the southern-most station on the line, and
has been rebuilt to provide two platforms. It is used for trains on
show on special event days, and there are several engines stored at
the end of the line. Whilst researching this cache we saw Thomas
the Tank Engine shunting an old diesel across the level crossing, a
sight which greatly impressed the youngest of the Royles.
For more information on the Dean Forest Railway, check out their
web site: Dean Forest
Railway
Lydney Junction is just 5 minutes walk from the mainline railway
station, so either can be used as a start location.
If you prefer to drive, parking is available at the train
station at N51º 42.884 W2º 31.886.
This is an offset cache starting at Lydney Junction, but the
challenge with this cache is in how to actually get to the final
co-ordinates. You will need to be sure-footed, but the going should
not be too difficult if you choose your route carefully.
The cache is an 2.5 litre box and its original contents were a
first to find certificate with a travel bug dog tag and a selection
of the usual goodies.
To locate the final cache, work out where you change here for,
take the 4 letters of the last word, and look them up in the letter
grid below to give the missing values in order N 51° 42.7** W 002°
31.5**.
