Ashdown Forest Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

Time for some Spring clean-up before the mosquitoes fly and the cruise ships arrive.

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of a timely response to a prior Reviewer Note and/or because the Cache Owner has not been online for several months. If the owner would like to have it reinstated, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

This is an offset cache.

Bringing a compass to the first coordinates is highly recommended.

This cache is not too difficult - but is a little different.

Follow the coordinates until you get to a parking lot at the end of the road.  The coordinates will take you on a scenic, well maintained path (part of the historic Iditarod Trail) for about 0.33 chromes.  There are plenty of other short and longer hikes in the area (and other caches) if you would like to explore further.  The coordinates will take you to a well known landmark (locally) some of the clues will help you to positively identify the landmark.

Once you arrive at the landmark – use a compass (or you can use the GPS if you are good – [keep moving]) and follow a magnetic heading of 351 degrees for approximately 70 feet.  You should be in the vicinity of the cache.

The cache container is larger than a micro but smaller than a small ammo can.  I tried to find a small TB to put in but the recent ones I have found were too big.  However it can hold quite a bit more than the log. Considering the surroundings and landmarks, the cache should not be too difficult to find.

Good luck! This is a nice historic scenic valley.  While I was placing the cache some people on the trail commented that it looked like Yosemite Valley.

Clues:

  1. The name of this cache is a clue to recognize the initial coordinates – you can look it up on the internet along with “100 Aker Wood West” and get an idea of a landmark to look for.
  2. BEARS LIVE IN THE AREA!   - Especially in the spring, summer, and fall.  This is a warning and a clue.
  3. Track five on Paul McCartney’s “Ram” album is not the way to go.
  4. You can get a map of all the trails at the visitor’s center.
