Welcome to the east side of Washington Island. Before you, and
to the southeast, is a perfect view of Hog Island. Percy Johnson
Park is also on location for your additional convenience.
Percy Johnson Park
Percy Johnson Park offers clean rest rooms, benches, picnic
tables, grills, sand beach and plenty of shade or sun depending on
your preference.
View of Hog Island
Local Island legend has it that many many years ago, even before
the Potawatomie Indians inhabited these waters, Washington Island
was colonized by a group of wayward, rowdy Harley riders. Being the
selective group of individuals that Harley riders are and evidently
were, local rumor has it these unruly bikers kept all of their ugly
women out on that little Isle to the southeast, hence the name
– 'Hog Island.' However, all past and recent
expeditions to Hog Island have failed to provide any solid evidence
to support these local Island rumors.
We gave this cache an additional difficulty of 1.5 because of
the ferry trip across Death’s Door which is needed to get to
Washington Island. And remember to BYOP...
