Geocache Description:

Situated in the Manuka Gorge Scenic Reserve. The Mount Stuart tunnel was built in 1875-76. It is 442 metres long, 2.4 metres wide and 3.9 metres high.
The bricks inside the portals were made from a claypit nearby and fired with coal from Waitahuna. Near the tunnel a stand pipe for water was fed by a race on the north side of manuka creek, which was siphoned under the road. The standpipe is still visible where the line ran around the base of the hill.

This is an easy 40min return walk.
