Kakiemon en Fukurokuju
Toen Kakiemon vertrok uit Osaka om in Edo zijn geluk te beproeven,
was hij nog niet zo slim en toch kreeg hij het voor elkaar om in een
keizerlijk paleis te wonen door simpelweg slim te zijn.
Hoe is Kakiemon nou zo slim geworden?
Op zijn weg naar Edo kwam Kakiemon langs Kawaguchiko, daar zat aan de
waterkant een eenzame oude man met een ontzettend groot hoofd samen met
een schildpad en een kraanvogel te vissen. Omdat Kakiemon honger begon
te krijgen sprak hij de oude man aan om te vragen of hij al wat gevangen had
en of hij iets mocht hebben omdat hij honger had. De oude man nodigde Kakiemon
uit om bij hem thuis te komen eten.
Tijdens het eten zaten ook de schildpad en de kraanvogel aan tafel en
Kakiemon vroeg aan de oude man waarom deze 2 dieren ook aan tafel zaten.
De oude man vertelde Kakiemon dat hij de god Fukurokuju was en dat
2 dieren stonden voor het lange leven en zijn grote voorhoofd het teken was voor
wijsheid. Nou was Kakiemon niet zo slim, maar wel slim genoeg om aan Fukurokuju
te vragen of deze hem ook slimmer kon maken. Fukurokuju gaf hiervoor
als antwoord:
‘Wees mijn gast, totdat je deze 4 puzzels hebt opgelost en
in de oplossing zul je de plek vinden waar de wijsheid is’.
Op dat moment lagen er 4 puzzels op tafel voor Kakiemon.
Nu weet je al dat Kakiemon slimmer is geworden, dus het is hem gelukt de 4 puzzels
op te lossen, lukt het jou ook?
Kakiemon and Fukurokuju
When Kakiemon went to the big city of Edo, he wasn’t that smart and still he
managed to live in a royal palace simply by being smart.
How did Kakiemon become so smart?
On his way to Edo Kakiemon passed by Kawaguchiko. There on the waterside
was an old man with a huge head fishing together with a turtle and a crane.
Because Kakiemon was hungry he asked the old man if he had caught some
fish and if he could have some. The old man invited Kakiemon to his house for dinner.
During dinner the turtle and the crane also sat at the table and Kakiemon asked
the old man why the 2 animals were at the table. The old man explained to Kakiemon
that he was the god Fukurokuju. The 2 animals were the symbols of longevity
and his large forehead the sign of great wisdom. Well Kakiemon wasn’t that smart,
but smart enough to ask Fukurokuju if he could make him smarter.
Fukurokuju answered:
‘Be my guest, until you’ve solved these 4 puzzles and
in the answer you will find the spot where you can find great wisdom.’
At that moment 4 puzzles lay before Kakiemon.
Now you know Kakiemon became smarter, so he was able to solve the 4 puzzles,
