~~This is along the way to Painted Hills, a unit of John Day Fossil Beds. Though it is not within the national monument, this location is worth a photo stop. The cache is about 50 feet from the pavement. Go around. There is room to pull over on the road shoulder, but be cautious if the ground is wet. Although there is no fence, cattle are sometimes grazed here, so be careful where you step. As always in this country, watch for rattlesnakes. The container is a small lock-lock box with space for a few small trinkets.
