Celebration in Style!
PLEASE JOIN US
for Ithaca's Second Adopt-a-Highway CITO
Event
***********************
Who: All Geocachers age 10 and above (roadside
conditions are not kid-friendly)
What: A Cache In, Trash Out event officially
recognized by the Tompkins County Highway Department under the
Adopt-a-Highway program
Where: Meet in the parking lot of the Embassy
Inn at the posted coords for donuts and cider. After a short safety
briefing and signing of waivers followed by the distribution of
those nifty orange vests, helmets, and bags, we will divide into
two groups, each starting at one end of the 2-mile stretch of
Turkey Hill Road between Route 366 and Ellis Hollow Road. We will
walk towards each other downhill and meet in the middle, award
prizes, and shuttle back to parking. Everyone will walk
approximately 1 mile and we expect to be back at the cars by 10:30
so that there will be plenty of time to cache in the area before
the
10 Years! (Ithaca, NY) event at Cass Park.
When: 9am-10:30 on Saturday, May 1,
2010.
Why: CITO is a fundamental part of caching,
and local geocachers have officially adopted this stretch of road
and are responsible for its maintenance.
In addition to picking up one of those CITO logos for your
caching stats, the festivities will include:
- A guarantee of at least *2* new Vanelle and IthacaDoodle caches
along the CITO route. The FTF for these caches will be available to
event participants only and coords (including solved puzzle coords
if applicable) will be distributed at the sign in. There are
already several caches along the route, so with the event and the
new caches, you can pick up some good caching numbers in addition
to picking up trash!
- New unactivated CITO geocoins prizes for 1) the first cacher to
log a "will attend" note (who also attends), 2) the attendee with
the craziest CITO find (try to beat those coconuts from last
time!), 3) the attendee who finds the most redeemable bottles/cans,
and 4) the attendee voted most photogenic in the orange vest and
helmet
- Awesome geo-company and geo-camaraderie while doing a
productive public service
- A particularly scenic stretch of road (this is really more of a
country road than a highway)
- Photo opportunities at the Ellis Hollow geocaching landmark
signs in your reflective orange gear
- Insider tips on those tricky Ithaca puzzle caches
What to bring: yourself and a pair of gloves. We will have
everything else available at the registration - donuts, cider,
water bottles, CITO bags, helmets, reflective vests, clean up
supplies, and coords to the new caches along the way!
