Geocache Description:

The South Carolina Geocachers Association (SCGA) in conjunction with the Midlands GeoHolics will be conducting a CITO cleanup event along the Saluda River beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007. We have scheduled this event to coincide with Palmetto Pride's
"Three Days of Three Rivers Celebration."

Geocachers will meet near the coordinates above (which are in a parking area of the Columbia Riverbanks Zoo) at 8:30 am on Thursday May 31. There should be a black Nissan vehicle with Palmetto Pride Markings parked nearby (probably with a lot of people milling about it). From this vehicle, the CITO materials will be distributed. Palmetto Pride is providing gloves, bags, picker-uppers, and some drinking water.

From the Palmetto Pride vehicle, the GeoCachers will move to our assigned cleanup area along the riverbank. There will be several other groups assigned to other areas and duties.

For those of you with other scheduled obligations that day, please note that you are more then welcome to come and go as you please.

WANT TO WIN A KAYAK? All participants will be entered into a larger drawing to win a one-person kayak with seat and paddle, donated by Confluence Watersports.

Please check this listing periodically for updates. As more information becomes available, we will pass it along.

NOTE: We will be moving along the riverbank ON LAND. Since this area of the river is called the Mill Race Rapids, at infrequent times the water can rise quickly. There are very loud sirens to signal this, but you should always be aware of your surroundings. (I have been told that SCE&G is aware of this activity, and plans no water release from the dam upstream.)
