Geocache Description:

You're looking for a small plastic bottle wrapped in tape. Bring your own pencil. May not be winter friendly, depending on snow cover.

In 1993, the Town of Boulder Junction began it's Bike and Hike Trail program, by building this segment from downtown Boulder Junction, to the North Trout Lake campground. A cooperative effort by the town, and the WI Department of Natural Resources, it became regularly used and widely known.

Built narrower than today's silent sports trails, the Hwy M South trail is still a very important section in the many miles of trails that now cover this area.

Known as the "Boulder Flats", one could actually see mighty Trout Lake from the town after the logging era had left this section with nothing but stumps.

Now lushly regrown, thousands of cyclists, joggers, hikers, and skaters enjoy the rolling, forested trail as it winds southward from our friendly town.

The cache is located at an intersection of the current trail and a former railroad grade, where lumbermen would skid the massive pines to meet the trains...trees that would build the homes of Milwaukee and Chicago.
