Brazilian Pink Toe (Avicularia avicualaria)
We are an arboreal species found in Brazil, Trinidad, Guyana,
Surinam, Venezuela, and throughout the Amazon Basin. As adults we
are dark overall, with the tips of our legs or “toes” bright pink.
Females reach a leg span of about 5 inches, and males a smaller
3.5.
Our diet consists mainly of insects and tree frogs, but in the
wild we have been filmed eating deadly prey such as the
Fer-de-lance viper. To put this in perspective, this snake's strike
is so fast that the eye can barely follow it. It is said that the
mongoose, which invariably masters the cobra, has only a 50-50
chance with the Fer-de-lance.
We are one of a few species of Tarantula that can be kept
successfully in colonies. Very docile and slow moving in general,
we can be very fast when startled - and are also very agile
jumpers.
Remember to take note of the clue in the log for the final
