Mt. Hope Cemetery Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

crawburr: I love this cemetery. The view is great. The monuments are old. And unique. The folks buried here have great stories.

But it is far from my house, and therefore difficult to maintain. So I hope someone does some research, and tells more stories about who is here. And I will go visit and (hopefully) find a cache.

Visit the following historic headstones to solve for the final location:

  1. Alexander Moore's headstone is located at 37 15.488 122 22.986.
Alexander was one of California's earliest settlers,
coming to California from Jackson County, Missouri, in 1847
and making the trip over the plains with ox teams.
He built a house about 1 mile south of Pescadero in 1853,
    but it burnt in 1976.
His son Thomas's house (built ~1863) still stands at 80 Stage Road,
    and may be the oldest building in Pescadero. (N 37 15.028, W 122 22.956)
    Pictures: (1983) (2005)
His great grandson, who grew up in Pescadero, is Gordon Moore,
co-founder of Intel and observer/promoter of "Moore's Law".
    • E= The 1's digit of the day Alexander Moore was born, in Tennessee, MINUS 1.

  2. John Goulson's headstone is located at 37 15.482 122 22.994 .
John's ancestors, in England, had been blacksmiths for 200 years.
He, his son, and his grandson were Pescadero blacksmiths.
Their shop still stands near the intersection of Goulson Road and North Street. (N 37 15.309, W 122 22.920)
It is one of the buildings closest to the cemetery.
    • A= The 1's digit of the year John Goulson died
    • F= The 10's digit of the year that John Goulson died.

  3. Frank Duarte's headstone is located at 37 15.517 122 23.014.
Frank started Duarte's in 1894 when he put a barrel of whiskey from Santa Cruz up on his bar and began selling drinks..
If you haven't done so yet, you must go into Duarte's and look at the original bar.
While there, look at the photos of old-time Pescadero in the lobby,
and the deed signed by Loren Coburn near the cash register.
    • B= The 10's digit of the year that Frank Duarte died.

  4. Jessica Dubroff 's grave is marked with a airplane wing-like sculpture located at 37 15.502 122 22.955.
7-year-old Jessica made headlines in 1997 when she was trying to become the youngest person to fly an airplane across the country.
Her overloaded plane crashed upon takeoff in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Her father and her flight instructor also died in the crash.
The whole endeavor was controversial and got a lot of television coverage.
    • C= Assuming the poem "Little Angels" has 13 lines, the number of the first line that suggests a reason why God might choose to summon a young child, plus 3.
    • D= Assuming the poem "Little Angels" has 13 lines, the number of the line that reveals the "saddest word", (which actually turns out to be 2 words), minus 1.
I learned a lot while researching this cache, and trying to tie the people to modern-day life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
