Some of the old-time geocachers in the
area will remember the original
Steel Mill geocache. I placed it on October 14, 2001. It was
one of the first underwater geocaches. Unfortunately, kids in the
area found out about it and it was plundered several times.
Ultimately, two containers disappeared. Today, even the old dock is
gone. Steel Mill II was placed on December 14, 2003, two years and
two months after the original.
Here is part of the original description, which still holds true
for this geocache: When you first arrive at this locale, you might
think it's another of my private property geocaches. But if you
look closely, you will see a public trail. You may not have known
that this place exists. Parallel to the trail are a handful of
parking spaces. Use one of these if you arrive by car. Please sign
the logbook and take a postcard. I'll replenish the postcards from
time to time.
The geocache is now an ammo can, with the usual trading items.
The postcards are an important part of the geocache, so please let
me know if they run low. This one is nearly handicap accessible but
reaching for the container will require typical geocaching
contortions. Have fun and please re-hide the geocache
carefully!
