This cache is in a Thames-side meadow, close to
Mapledurham Lock (N51:29:219 W001:02:422).
You have a choice of where to park. If you are on foot, then it is
best to park in Purley Village at the end of Mapledurham Drive (N51:28:894 W001:02:736)and
walk up Mapledurham Drive (Thames Footpath - vehicular access for residents only), passing
Bucknells Meadow, a children's play area, on the right. If you have a bicycle or
pram/pushchair it would be better to park in Wintringham Way, Purley on Thames (N51:28:999
W001:02:512) and join the public footpath by walking through the kissing gate and turning
right.
As you walk down the public footpath, the lane splits into two. The turning left is a
private road to the lock. The public foothpath is the right fork.
You can either go through the kissing gate, or open the large metal gate by lifting it
slightly and pulling back the handle. Please make sure you close the gate afterwards.
The lock is ahead of you, slightly to the left. The cache is hidden to the right.
Mapledurham Lock is well worth a visit and is one of the prettiest locks on the Thames. If
you look across the river, you will see Mapledurham House and Watermill
(http://www.mapledurham.co.uk/).
From around March/April time to September/October, there is a small shop at the lock
selling ice creams, cold drinks and other refreshments. You can sit and enjoy a tea/coffee
and watch the boats go through the lock. There are also plants, postcards, guidebooks and
paintings on sale.
The cache is a large green ammo box and contains an assortment of items.
