The Wisconsin Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries or other historic sites. In six years, the Spirit Quest has grown to over seven hundred caches hidden in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Ontario , Florida,and Wisconsin and the hiders have grown to over fifty cacher teams. Over 1,000 cacher accounts had logged over 25,000 finds when we quit counting.

"St. John the Baptist Cemetery"

Welcome to St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Door County.

Thomas (Blackjack) and William (Redjack) Carmody came to the Egg Harbor area in 1857 settling three miles South of the Village. The two families with fifteen children all told, formed the nucleus of a settlement later known as Sunny Point.

French Canadian families began to arrive in the Egg Harbor area in 1865. In 1878 the first church (St. John’s) was built on the Northeast corner of this cemetery, two and one half miles South of the Village of Egg Harbor.

Father B. Hugenroth at St. Peter & Pauls, Institute, began working with the St. John's Parish in the year of 1888. The congregation had now outgrown the small log church.

A new Catholic Church, 30' by 40', was built across the road and finished Nov. 2, 1888. The carpenters received $300.00 for their conscientious work.

There are some unusual and very old headstones located at this cemetery. And please remember, if there are people visiting a loved one, you might try again at a different time.
