Geocache Description:

This event will take place at the Stratton-Eustis Community Building.

The first annual "Get Useless In Eustis" event will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2008 in Eustis, Maine. The Community Building (coords are for there) has been reserved for that day and will serve as a meeting place. It will open at 7:00 AM, dinner will be at 5:00 PM and it will close whenever we're through. It has two restrooms, a large completely equipped kitchen, a stage, lots of tables and chairs. There will be a registration table, door prizes, and a TB/coin swap table. Coffee, tea, cocoa and soft drinks will be provided throughout the day. We have also reserved both group camping areas, very large, at Cathedral Pines Campground for that Friday and Saturday night, which you may use for free. Or you can reserve (and pay for) your own site by calling 207-246-3491. The group sites have fireplaces, picnic tables and Port-Potties only but you may use any of the facilities at the main campground across the street. That has hot showers, flush toilets, a dumping station, rec room, a small playground and a swim beach. Dogs are welcome. Or if you're a loner, I can show you several out-of-the-way primitive, solitary sites back in the woods. Not into camping? We have four motels and two B&Bs.

On Saturday you can go caching all you want from Kingfield to Rangeley, Stratton to Chain of Ponds. If you like to climb mountains, put a team together and do Cranberry Peak in the Bigelows, or Kennebago, Sugarloaf, or for the less adventurous, Bald Mountain in Oquossoc. There is a cache at each. Or go kayaking on Flagstaff Lake. There are caches that can be reached only by boat, and some that can be found by foot or boat. We will be happy to help you make a list of places to stop. And some new caches will be placed for the event, for the first-to-finders among you.

Saturday, 5:00 PM, there will be a pot-luck dinner at the Community Building. Please bring something to share. After that, some groups might want to go night caching or sit around a campfire at the campground.

Here's a chance to visit or re-visit this lovely area, meet new geocachers, talk shop, compare toys, just have fun!

Any questions, please e-mail kayaking loon through geocaching.com. I'll be happy to help you with any plans or arrangements. This is a beautiful area and we hope many of you can come to enjoy it!

For the pot-luck dinner we have: plates, tableware, cups, napkins, coffee, cocoa, tea, marshmallows, sugar, creamer, cider. Dishes promised so far: lasagna; chili; meatballs; macaroni and cheese; Greek pasta salad; buffalo wings; vegetarian lasagna.

Desserts: homemade apple crisp; cheesecake; low-fat, low-sugar strawberry pies; applesauce cake with cream cheese frosting; blueberry pie.

I will add to this list as I hear from people.
