Begin by going to Bailey, Colorado and following Park County 43 to PCR 47 to the trailhead for Rosalie/Tangelwood Trails. The trail is well maintained and used by horses often so it is rocky in places. It is a gradual incline so be prepared - you will gain roughly 375 feet in elevation. The entire trip is well above 9000' in altitude.
We have lived in Bailey for almost seven years now, and have been hiking its marked and unmarked trails for just as long. This is truly a beautiful area and we wanted to share it with others. Late in the winter of 2002 we started geocaching as a way to give our family hikes additional "purpose". Kodiak, who is half Black Lab and half St. Bernard, seems to have been born for this activity and just loves these adventures. After "bagging" several geocaches and helpng our eldest son's Boy Scout patrol hide their own geocache, we decided to plant one ourselves. This cache is in a beautiful area that is not heavily used, but is a favorite of horsemen and hikers alike. Though it is a constant uphill walk, this hike is suitable for all family members. Check out the trail on a map and you will be surprised as to where it goes up to!! Distance from trail head and elevation gain are estimates because my GPS kept losing its signal. This is the first time the tree cover has been dense enough to cause this to happen. Don't worry though, there are plenty of clearings to get new bearings in and the reception was good at the point of "hiding".
The cache is in a popcorn tin and is packed with alot of neat and varied items. NEW ITEMS PLACED IN CACHE ARE:
SAN DIEGO LUGGAGE TAG
SMALL PEN
SHAKE LIGHT
BINOCULARS
ETHERNET CORD
DISNEY PRINCESS RING
HYDROFOIL BOAT
SHELL NECKLACE
HAND WARMERS
MAGNETIC MEN
LENS CLOTH
HACKY SACK
BILL MURRAY MAGNET
The creek is currently running very swiftly due to the snow melt up above and the recent rains. In several areas along the hike you will see that little "falls" have been created. Right next to the spot we selected to hide the cache is one of these "falls". My eldest son decided to name the "falls" Kodiak Falls after our overly enthusiastic companion. Hope you enjoy the hike and the cache!
Gregg, Phyllis, Steven, Kevin, and the big guy - Kodiak
Sorry to say that "Kodi" (Kodiak our dog and for whom the cache and falls were named) passed away on 8/25/10. His hips had finally given out and he was unable to walk. The big guy will be missed for many reasons, one of which was his assistance with our geocaching adventures. But, this place and our username will carry on his memory for years to come!
