Another decon container in Ahmanson Ranch. Just inches off the trail. Be careful when retrieving and replacing the cache.

Bazooka Bubble Gum History

It was after World War II ended that Topps developed its Bazooka bubble gum product in Brooklyn, New York. It was named after the humorous musical instrument which entertainer Bob Burns had fashioned from two gas pipes and a funnel in the 1930s. (This contraption also gave its name to the armor-piercing weapon developed during the War.)

Bazooka, with its distinctive name, taste, and red, white and blue logo and packaging, soon became a familiar part of Americana. As a matter of fact, a psychological study of tastes and smells that bring back memories found that one of the most frequently identified items was Bazooka Bubble Gum.

Bazooka is also famous for the popular series of Bazooka Joe comics, first introduced in 1953 to add extra interest for youngsters. There are 500 to 700 different comics that Topps has developed over the years, and a new series of 75 Bazooka Joe comics are in the market right now. Besides reading them, thousands of children each year send in for the premiums offered on these comics.

Bazooka itself is now available in a wide variety of flavors and forms, including Original, Grape, and Strawberry Shake flavors, as well as Sugarless Bazooka. Bazooka Blasts, with "Super Flavor Crystals," provides longer lasting, more intense flavor.

My cache in the area needed maintenance so I came out with Mountain Cat and Majorjarhead to repair it and to grab some caches on the loop to Victory Blvd. Quick find. TFTC

Out with BigFootMoose and MountainCat to grab a few in this park. This was one of the 15 out of 20 finds and we enjoyed the hunt and the find. The 9.5 mile loop/spiral was great. Can't believe the temperature in November - guess that's why we live in California.
Thanks for the cache.

Detoured off my intended route in Ahmanson Ranch to grab this one. I was hoping to get further up into the hills today, but my ankle (which has been threatening to give out for the past few days, the result of a years-old cross country injury) finally quit on me as I was on my way down from Las Virgenes Canyon View, which I DNF'd on, so this was my second and last find of the day. Boo!! I've been wanting to get out here for ages, and today was really the perfect weather for it, but I suppose I will have to wait a little while until I'm back to full strength. At least I got a couple smileys out of the 90-minutes-with-traffic car trip. OK, back to the cache. It's in good shape, and was a pretty easy hide. Can't say I've seen too many decons hidden like that. Thanks Bill!
