Geocache Description:

Help Clean up the Oak Grove!!

Thanks for checking this out!!
This Cleanup event is to help out CPTC and their Environmental Sciences Outdoor Lab. This is to help payback the kindness that Andy Fritz has shown by being cache friendly to the caching community.

There are numerous projects going on at this site, such as trash removal, trail clearing and maintenance, habitat restoration, tree planting, etc.. and they all could use some help. Since this is the first event I've planned, I've decided to make it an easy one and give the area a really good CITO day!

Parking for the day will be at the NE corner of Lakewood Drive and Steilacoom Blvd. There are a couple of gravel semi-driveways into the flat area from both roads. Coordinates are roughly N 47' 10.618 W 122' 30.428. There may be additional parking available at the Memorial Park to the East of the location, I'm waiting to hear back from them about use (they are fairly busy on the weekends and may need to utilize their overflow parking) but i'm fairly sure this parking spot will accomodate any of us that show up.

This area is home to the largest stand of Garry Oaks in an incorporated area in Washington. Property was part of the Flett Dairy forever, and was recently purchased by the school to help with the Env. Sci. program and to help reestablish the wetlands and help preserve this historically significant area. There are over 700 oaks in this grove!

The school will be helping to provide supplies for the cleanup, I will take care of hauling out what we round up.
If you have work gloves, please bring them! Latex gloves will be available on site. Anything you've got that can help get rid of blackberries is welcome too! (there's a bajillion of them that need to be gone.) The main focus for the day will be picking up the random garbage from various dumping spots though. Trail work is next!!

I am currently working on prize support from local retailers for drawings at the event. If you have any skills in this department, I could use the help!! If you're a local retailer interested in helping, please contact me.

I will also be collecting names from the volunteers, for prizes to be awarded that day. I would like to have everyone bring a small item to contribute to an event cache to be awarded as well! Prizes will be cache related, including containers (lots!) and contents (maybe lots!).

This area will have an active Geocache by March 7, placed by me. I will also be placing some event day only caches for participants to hunt down! There is also a Terracache in the grove.

Please come help out and join the fun!

Please bring a sack lunch or some snacks. I'll bring donuts in the morning for sure. There are lots of espresso stands on the roads leading in as well.
