Geocache Description:

The legend of the 'Lady of Lawers' is well known around these parts. In the Seventeenth century she made a number of predictions, many of which came true!

For example, when they were building a church in Lawers she foretold:

"The ridging stones shall never be placed on the roof of the church."

This was received with some amusement as the carved capping stones had that day been brought by boat from Kenmore. But in the night a violent storm blew up and the stones were washed into the deep waters of the loch and could not be recovered.

A very evocative place.

In an episode of Weir's Way from the 1970s, Tom Weir explores the old abandoned village of Lawers and considers the prophecies of the Lady of Lawers.

When you visit this place you will be seeing it exactly as Tom saw it as nothing's really changed in thirty years. And when you stand at the edge of the water and look out you will be seeing it pretty much as the Lady of Lawers saw it over 300 years ago!

Getting to the old village involves leaving the A827 and walking down quite a steep farm track down to Loch Tay.
You need to quite fit and certainly have sensible shoes on!
For this reason I am making this cache a 4 star for terrain.

Note also that the only parking available is at the Lawers Hotel.

GPS reception was very poor at the cache site so the clue is quite specific.
