China Clay in the Glynn Valley
The cache is not at the above co-ordinates which is for Newbridge China Clay Kiln & Siding. This is private property so please do not enter or stop on the main road!.
The cache is not far away on Forrestry Commission land. There are no paths to the cache site which is next to other parts of the clay works. Parking is available on a nearby road. Please do not block gates or cause an obstruction. Be aware of traffic and keep geokids and hounds under control. This cache is probably not suitable for small children. The cache site has a fenced of area near by it which it is not necessary to go inside. There are other hazards near by. The site is very peaceful with some pleasant views.
Glyn Valley Siding was authorised in 1872 and was operated by F Parkyn. It served a china clay storage shed on the south side of the Cornwall Railway main line and closed at an unknown date. This rare view from 1876 to 1892 shows the broad guage single line and the train on the siding where open wagons are being loaded. [Photo M Dart collection]

Newbridge china clay kiln opened on the same site in 1933 and was taken out of use in 1968. Liquid clay was piped to the kiln from a local pit. Kilns were typically close to the railway so that dry clay could be taken away and coal for the kiln could be brought in.

The puzzle - Resistance is futile

I never cease to be amazed just how much of our land has been altered by man. Just look at this rural area, there are obvious roads and railways but also weirs, ponds, leats, wells, tumuli, mines. Our moors and woodlands are often abandoned or overgrown industrial sites. This little puzzle will take you to one of these not far away. [The puzzle has nothing to do with the above so you may have to do some research.] This was my first cache and set after I found my first 250. The cache had a gold cup for each of First, Second & Third to Find to keep along with some other items for trading.
Congratulations to
First to Find - Bodmin Bullies
Second to Find - Dollars Deb
Third to Find - Joe Smile
Cache placed in accordance with the GAGB Forestry Commission Peninsular District agreement.
