Spy Pond is a kettle-hole body of water next to the Minuteman Bikeway in Arlington, Massachusetts. Until the advent of artificial refrigeration, Spy Pond was at the center of the ice industry courtesy the "Ice King", Frederic Tudor. Nowadays the Pond and the renovated Spy Pond Park are home to over 120 species of bird, including year-round resident Canadian Geese and swans.
The park is supported by the Friends of Spy Pond Park. The park is a great place to watch your kids play on new equipment installed between the bikeway and the pond's shore. There is parking at the cache coordinates, so you could treat this cache as a park-n'-grab.
On warm days, the Park makes a great picnic site. And if you are using the bikeway, stop for a few minutes and admire the view. DON'T feed the geese, though!
UPDATE: Due to increased disappearances, I have replaced the original micro-sized and nano-sized containers with a small-sized container.
Our cat Spewey, who has two caches in Arlington and one cache in Honolulu named for him after he passed away, visited this park and wanted very much to say hi to a large Doberman who was enjoying the park as well. After a quick touching of noses, we carried Spewey back to the car...just in case!
