Several times in recent years we have driven down this street and passed by an interesting sign, an old church, and cemetery. I do not know why we have never taken the time to pull over and read the sign or explore a bit. Until today, that is!
The sign states that this was the original site of the Centre Grove School House which was built in 1876. In 1970 it was moved to Wheaton Village where it has been fully restored and is open to the public. Interpretive materials and exhibits are also on display within the quaint schoolhouse.
Adjacent to this historic site is the Center Grove Methodist Church which was established in 1804. Behind the church you will find a cemetery with many old markers. As always, please be respectful of the area.
The cache is a matchstick container secured in place. It contains a logsheet and a pencil. You will be provided a bit of privacy while searching for this one.
This is a lovely wooded lot and it is enjoyable to imagine what it might have been like back two hundred years ago when this was the “Centre Grove.”
