carlschulz: I just talked to the US Forest Service and they said that stretch of road is closed indefinitely. My guess is they are going to get in there and hydroseed for erosion control.

Whenever they get around to reopening it, I'll get up there and find out of the cache survived. It was in a little "cave" in some bedrock with a rock in front of it so it wasn't directly exposed to fire. But the intense heat could have damaged it. I'll make a new listing it it survived.

Geocache Description:

Foreign Coins

This cache is placed near a great scenic overlook along Rampart Range Road (enter the road from Garden of the Gods) in Colorado Springs. I placed the cache where the public won't accidently find it and should be fairly well protected. This is a great cache for evening. Find it while the sun it up and stay for a great sunset. I have shot many rolls of film from there.

The cache has a small log (it's a 35mm canister after all) so bring a pencil and pen. Inside the cache are two foreign coins. If you take a foreign coin, leave a foreign coin. No Canadian or Mexican coins please (they are too comon). I can't believe I need to say it but NO U.S. COINS either.

The dirt & gravel road is not well maintained but a car should make it if you go slowly.

08/24/06 a quick note to let everyone know I checked on the cache and it is there. It's not exactly where I left it and it is hidden a little bit better.

11/04/06 a quick note to let everyone know I checked on the cache and it is there. A new log book has been added.

05/31/08 I got up to the cache and put a new log book in it. The rock face has deteriorated some since my last visit. However it was there and in good shape.
