Geocache Description:

Join us for our first Hitchcock-themed cache... as we dare you to experience VERTIGO!

Yes, with a name like LarsThorwald it was only a matter of time before we began our series of caches centered on the films of the late, great, and pretty darn strange Alfred Hitchcock. He was known as the Master of Suspense for good reason: his films were shot economically, quickly, and with him rarely getting out of his chair... yet some of them remain today among the most gripping - and at times truly frightening - in the history of film. Through his artistry he was able to induce vivid emotions in his audience: fear of open spaces (agoraphobia), fear of confined spaces (claustrophobia), fear of being in spaces with people who look like Tony Perkins (Norman Bates-ophobia)... and VERTIGO.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines vertigo as "the sensation of dizziness... a confused, disoriented state of mind." You may remember that, in Hitchcock's film VERTIGO, Jimmy Stewart has just such a reaction when faced with the prospect of heights... like the bell tower at Mission San Juan Bautista. Or a bridge...

Our cache will ask to you face - and surmount - the same fears Jimmy Stewart did as you venture out onto the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena. Nothing about this hunt is dangerous - you'll be on a sidewalk the entire way. It should in fact be quite easy... unless you look DOWN!

The cache is on the south side walkway of the bridge - the side opposite the Rose Bowl. Make sure you get this right. We suggest you park on the east side of the bridge - there's parking quite close on the Pasadena end. As with all LarsThorwald micros's, this cache is in a Hide-a-Key. Other than that, we can only hope that you begin your journey prepared - with good items to leave in a micro - and to face a fear, and a sensation, that you may never have experienced before: VERTIGO!
