Geocache Description:

The posted coords are the Trailhead for this night-cache.

A long while ago, when I was around the age of 8 or 9, I overheard my granddad and uncle talking about a strange place in this area. I recently asked my uncle to tell me about that place. It was where an older couple, in their 70’s, had lived during the late 1920’s. Suffering from many years of depression from the sudden deaths of their 7 year old triplet boys, the couple made a plan to join them together. Since they had out-lived their 3 children and had no other known descendants, their home and land had never been given to anyone. So it sat and year after year, nature it took over.

In the mid 1930’s, a group of kids up to no good, bush wacked through there and happened upon the house and barn of the old couple. Not too long after their discovery, they had started a fire in the yard where the couple had once had a garden. The fire got out of control and quickly the house was burned to the ground. The barn was untouched. Nature again took its course, claiming every inch of soil it could set its roots in on that couple’s land.

When I asked what had happened to the 3 boys of the couple, my uncle told me the sad story. Boys will be boys, so the saying goes. The family had been down at the creek near their home (now a nearby swampy area) one afternoon having a great time in water. The boys had been swinging from the trees on a rope their father had tied on last spring. Apparently, the tree branch had been rotten and with all the swinging, it gave way and fell on top of the 3 boys, trapping them under the water. The parents instantly jumped to remove the branch off the boys. But by the time they got the boys out of the water, it was too late. They had drowned.

The parents carried their children home, to bury them in a cemetery in their yard. And eventually they built the barn over the graves of the children to protect them from the elements of nature. The barn is also the place the parents took their own lives to join their children. The barn barely still stands today and many people that have passed this barn at night have told stories of seeing the boys running around inside, playing and have heard the cries of the parents mourning the death of their children.
