Geocache Description:


Ballydyan Nature Reserve is no longer maintained by the Ulster Wildlife Trust and has been handed back to the local landowner.

The area has become very overgrown with loads of brambles and nettles.

It is however an amazing place to loose yourself in the beauty of the Co. Down countryside.

The reserve was the result of a little bit of sympathetic landscaping which has turned this old railway cutting into a heaven for all types of nature.On placing the cache I saw 2 rabbits, a magpie, 2 wood pigeons, a pair of blue tits building a nest in one of the nest boxes, frogs in the pond (which later will be full of spawn), crows in the trees across the road and loads of spring lambs in the farm next door.

The reserve has a couple of steep steps to access different levels and stiles between different areas.Make sure you close the gate on the way in and out.The cache is located near the end of the reserve which you can walk in a circular route.
