The very elusive major milestone known
as number 5,000.
When we all started this crazy
sport/hobby we looked at our 10 or so finds, and we wondered,
“How the heck does anyone find 1,000 caches let alone 5,000
caches?” And we think to our selves as our eyes glaze over,
“Wow, 5,000 finds. Maybe one day in a time far, far
away...” Then before you know it, that magic day arrives.
TeamDotOne
TeamDotOne started geocaching like the
rest of us, trying something new to see what it was all about. And
like the rest of us they became addicted to the sport of
geocaching.
TeamDotOne and I met for the first
time at a geocache named
North
Royaltrollton (GCQJBA) by SherwoodForest. Since that time they have become
close friends. Along the way they have help me and many other
Geocachers reach major milestones.
They started Geocaching on June
8th, 2006 finding
their first cache
Mohican
Micro (GCP55W) the same day. They went on to find Number 1,000 -
Orchard
Beach Cemetery (GCPA5A) on August 4th 2007; Number
2,000 -
King of the
Rockers (GC14DYM) on April 26th 2008; Number
3,000 -
Indiana
Spirit Quest #428: Too Many Lambs (GCT054)
on August 10th 2008; and Number 4,000 -
Road to
Salvation (GC11ZCF) on February 7th 2009.
On July 23rd 2009 at
Midwest
Geobash 2009 (GC1HKTM) when they signed the event logbook, they reached
number 5,000.
During our friendship I have had the
pleasure to cache with them in four states and on many, many long
days. I have watched them on 24 hour cache runs where they left the
house at 4am and did not return home till 4am the next day. I have
watched them caching in sever thunder storms, driving rain storms,
clouds of mosquitoes so thick it looked like a cloud of black
smoke, and in the snow in the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania.
All the while laughing, telling really bad jokes and enjoying good
times known only to Geocachers.
During this time we have gone from
Geocachers that passed briefly on the trail to good friends that
have shared many great memories.
The World Wide Geocaching Community know
them as TeamDotOne. To their Geochums they are know as Michael and
Maggi. And to a lucky few, they are known as friends.
Congratulations TeamDotOne!
