A Birds' Eye View Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Good Dog: It's Oct 1, 2009 and time to archive this cache per GC requirements. I hate to see it go. I want to thank everyone who has attempted this cache, and for all the kind posts and emails I have received. There are a lot of fun memories for everyone.

[:D] I have good news also. I plan to make this an event cache next summer. Picnic and hopefully new attempts. Scouter Joe has inspired me. !!

[:D] More good news, I am planning another 4/4 or maybe 5/5 cache. I hope to get it going before the snow flies. If not, it will have to wait for spring 2010

Thanks for the memories.

Geocache Description:

Flat terrain. It's the altitude that gets you.

This cache is a little different, and probably won’t get a lot of hits, but it will be fun for those who try it, and I’ll have a blast reading your logs and looking at the pictures.

First the objective: Take a picture of a white bed sheet that has a huge number on it.

The catch: It has to be an aerial photo taken from at least 75 ft, clearly showing the sheet with the number. No ladders and no scaffolding etc. This is park property and you can't build anything or drive anything out onto the soccer fields.

The location: The cache site is a huge field on the west side of Bowling Green. The coordinates on the cache page will take you to the field and the location of the actual
cache box that is hidden there. You can use the whole field which is owned by the B. G. Parks and Recreation and is used for soccer practice. There are a lot of practice fields
here, and they don’t get used much. If there is a soccer game going on, then you can’t hunt the cache obviously.

What I envision: An individual may be able to do this cache, but I envision putting together a team to complete the task. If you use the team approach, pick a name for your team to help keep the confusion down. Any and all geocachers on the team can log the find, but the team doesn’t have to be made up of only geocachers. See rule 3 below.

The rules:
1-- First you must contact me via e-mail and tell me you are going to attempt the cache, and who is on the team, and the name of the team. No individual on the team can log the
cache more than once, but an individual can lend his/hers expertise to another team. I will assign you a number to paint on the sheet. This number will be exclusively yours and will be used for as long it takes you to complete the cache. This may take one day, or many weeks, depending on your plan of attack.

2-- Paint your assigned number on the white bed sheet. I say sheet, but any white cloth at least as big as a sheet can be used. Make the number huge. You can use more that one
sheet if you are taking a picture from a very high altitude.

3-- You must take a group photo of your team and identify the individuals who will be logging the cache. In addition, one of you must be holding a copy of that days Bowling
Green Sentinel or Toledo Blade newspaper. Be sure to also get a close up photo of the paper. If the photographer is part of the team, then use a time delay setting, or take a 2nd photo with the photographer in it. The photo MUST be taken at the field, and everyone in the photo MUST be there the day you successfully finish the event. You may want to
scout out the location, and go over possible plans of attack. This can be done by any or all of the participants, just be sure you are all there the day(s) that you take the picture and attempt the challenge.

4-- I can think of at least 7 ways to attempt this challenge. One of them obviously would be to use a plane. I don’t expect all of you to climb into the plane, but at least one of the geocachers must be in the plane. The ground crew can gather around the sheet for the photo-op.

5-- The photo must CLEARLY show the sheet and the number. After you have taken the photo find the cache box and sign the log there. You must email me the aerial photo before you log the cache on the web page. If it is acceptable, I’ll let you know and your team leader can log the find and upload all the photos, and you as individuals can each
then log the cache. If the photo is not clear enough, then you’ll have to try again.

6-- You may use something like Photo Shop to make a picture clearer, but any attempt to fake or alter the picture will not be accepted, and you will be barred from any further
attempts at logging this cache.

7-- Any logs that do not fulfill all the obligations will be deleted. If you have questions email me and I’ll clear them up and help anyway I can. I’ll even take the picture of your team for you. I’d love to be there for the attempt.

8--Please have your designated photographer take pictures of the actual attempt. These will be the most fun to look at.

9-- If you are viewing this cache and don’t live in the area, or live here but don’t know anyone to ask for help, and you want a “local” to be on your team to help with the
preparation and ground work, then email me and I’ll attempt to put you in contact with someone who is willing to help. Another way would be to put a note on the cache page and ask for volunteers to form a team, or send an email to: nwogeo@nwogeo.org This is our local geocaching group and most members will get the email. We have some creative minds in the area, some people who are very technically oriented, and even some pilots. I’m looking forward to seeing the makeup of the teams. I’m going
to try to come up with an appropriate “First to Find” memento.

!!!!!!! Congratulations to Team Soaring for their FTF and their sportsmanship on their approach. You should have heard the excitement in thier voices when they called me. Great job and pictures!!
