Welcome to the "Cache & Dash" Geocaching Road Rally!

This event is open to everyone!

We want everyone to come, visit, and hang out, share stories, trade bugs, and have lunch at the beach area picnic shelter at Dillon Lake State Park in Zanesville, Ohio.  Rain or shine from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

There is an event going on at the beach and we don't want to get in the way of that event!

WHAT TO EXPECT

During the event there will be a Road Rally for anyone interested in having some serious fun! You must sign up for the Road Rally activity by posting a NOTE and WILL ATTEND below. If you are planning to volunteer during the event, or have friends who would like to stick around the park, we would love the company!

There is a playground at the pavilion and plenty of parking! If anyone wants to bring a cornhole game for those who aren't participating in the Road Rally that would be cool!

The Road Rally activity is available for any cachers. If you sign up by posting a NOTE below you will be placed into a time slot with a greater chance for getting an FTF! If you decide after the cut-off date to participate, that's perfectly fine too. Your team will be in the last time slot. But everyone is welcome to participate, even if you sign up during the event! The more participation; the merrier!!

Please bring a food item and your own drinks to share lunch. We'll start preparing for lunch around 12:30. Feel free to come any time between 12:30 and 2:00 to eat.

WHAT IS A ROAD RALLY?

"A road rally is a fun driving tour of caches on public roads where groups of cachers (Teams) will be competing for points to win prizes. The vehicles can vary, and any street legal vehicle can be entered into a rally."
Road Rally teams will head out starting at 9am - time out and starting positions is explained below, with more information to be announced.  Lunch and awards will begin around 1:00pm.

TEAMS

If you would like to participate in the Road Rally you'll need a team of 4-6 members. Here are the suggested Team Member positions:

Your team can be up to six fellow cachers, your family, or even... muggles (we won’t judge!) It’s suggested for this Rally that you consider the following positions:

• Driver (Obviously!)

• Navigator (Definitely a necessary skill!)

• Photographer (Needed for the Bonus Point Challenges and capturing the FUN you’re about to have!)

• Thinker / Strategizer (There are some unique and challenging hides out there, so don’t expect the expected for this event!)

If you don’t have a complete “Team” and would like to go out with others, write a NOTE here that you are looking for teammates, or need to be placed on a team (And maybe what position you can fill!)

WHAT TO BRING

As we all have our TOTT (Tools of the trade) here is a list of optional items that may make your trip a little easier...Because you’ll find a good variety of basic hides and some pretty challenging hides and you can’t say we didn’t warn ya!

• One vehicle with enough room for the entire team

• Enough gas for 20-40 mile trip

• GPS - Suggested to bring one that has the capability to enter new coords at the course

• Side dish for lunch after everyone returns

• Smartphone

• BYOP ; )

• Magnet

• Note pad

• Batteries

• Flashlight

• Shoes

• CITO bags

• Swag

• Digital camera

• Sense of humor!

THE RALLY

Your Mission:

To collect as many (A) caches and (B) bonuses as you can in the given amount of time.

How To Play:

(A) Brand new caches have been placed throughout Zanesville. You will be given coordinates of all the caches when your Team is scheduled out (See below for Starting Positions). Each cache has a point value. Add the D/T together and that is the points you will earn.

(B) Bonus tasks will be given to you at the same time. It’s part photo op, and part scavenger hunt. But no spoilers yet!

STARTING POSITIONS

Starting times will be announced in advance. Only a few teams will go out at a time in order to keep everyone from going out in mass to a single cache.

The first round of teams out will have the best chance for FTFs as the caches will not be officially published online until after the Rally Event. The number of teams per round will be determined by the total number of teams participating.

Since cachers will be coming from out of town, we will use a random number generator to determine which round your team will be scheduled out. Be sure that your “Will Attend” log states what Team Name you are on. Post a second “Note” if you would like to join in but don’t have a team.

Add this event to your watch list, and check back often for additional notes and the official schedule. The starting position schedule will be listed the week before the event. Anyone that posts “Will Attend” after the schedule is posted will automatically fall into the last time slot.

Starting time will be 9:00 am.  Expect to be at the park, signed in, and ready to go 15 minutes before your scheduled time out. Then you will need to be back at the park by 1:00 pm for us to tally your points for prizes...and share your stories over lunch!
