Geocache Description:

This cache is in the gorgeous Santa Rita Mountains of southern Arizona.

Edited 3/17/10. We again replaced the cache container because a rodent liked it & chewed the lid. It was full of water. We had to put in a new log book, too. Guess the next one will have to be an ammo can. Road in good condition today. It seems to get smoother everytime we go but high clearance vehicle is still advised.
Edited 1/14/2008. We replaced the cache container and loaded it up with all new treasures. There were some big equipment trucks near the 4051 intersection. Looks like they are surveying & drilling. Don't head towards them. Stay on the hard-packed roads. Towards the trucks are a few newly-created short roads that don't go anywhere. They also have loose rocks on them. Today the main roads were in good shape. Easy riding.

Although not absolutely accurate, we used the Coronado Nat'l Forest Nogales/Sierra Vista Ranger District map. A walking stick would be helpful. The cache can be accessed from two directions. One is via I-19 to Sahaurita Rd. then southeast to Santa Rita Rd. Our group of 13, using 4x4 vehicles, entered from the opposite direction via I-10 and south on SR83(Exit 281) for approx. 12 miles. Turn right 0.1 mi. south of the small rest area (no facilities) just south of MM47 F.S.231. Watch for the sign for Rosemont Junction. There is an information kiosk on the right with a map posted soon after turning off SR83. Continue to the cache via Helvita Rd. for approx. 4 miles. You will encounter numerous side trails so watch signs carefully, following a sign to Gunsight Pass. Stay to right on 4051 & shortly thereafter 4051 takes a right again. Go approx. 1 mi. & turn left on 505, going uphill. This is a fairly easy high-clearance 4x4 drive. You will find a small parking area approx. 100 yd. from the cache. This will be a uphill stroll but watch the kids. After finding the cache you can continue onto the Helvetia Mining Area for copper mining exploration. There are mines throughout the area. Helvetia was established in 1899 and discontinued in 1921. The whole district produced about 17,000,000 pounds of copper worth $4,000,000. We really enjoyed this day trip and we know you will, too! This is our first cache to be hidden and we went all-out with NEW items, including a SPECIAL GIFT for the first finder. There is something for everyone in this cache. It contains:
Spiderman, Cinderella and camping stickers, new canvas gloves, (2)Gerber Lil'Dippers for baby, bag clip/magnet, Happy Face magnet, small blue pocket wallet, deck of cards, a colorful AZ lizard and a Hot Wheels car. There are (3) stamped/self-addressed postcards for you to drop us a line about your adventure. We have included the Official Geocache Announcement, a log book, pencils, pen and sharpener. We have also included a TRAVEL BUG.
