The stone industry expanded in parallel with the other Swedish industry. Due to its character as a marked export industry it was strongly sensitive to the state of the market and by the conditions in the buying countries. From 1870 there was an uninterrupted growth but 1093 a gradually decline started for the granite industry until middle of 1940 when all activities more or less stopped and many stonemasons went to other industries instead.

Between the middle of 19:th century until 1970 the red, middle-grained and coarse-grained granite, partly consisting of blue quartz, was quarried in the Vånevik area. The stone was mostly used for monuments and as building materials but some became paving stones and curbstone. Round 30 quarries was taken up in the Vånevik area.

The cache is a 0,4 l plastic box with blue lid, containing a logbook, a pencil and some trading items.
