Geocache Description:

Geocaching in the Snow! Does this sound fun? Ask any geocacher who has attended the previous events in 2008 and 2007 and they will tell you YES!

The Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together 2009 will follow the same theme as the previous two years. An event in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, in the middle of the Winter where geocachers from all over the North East get together to geocacache, visit with geocaching friends, make new friends, share stories, trade geocoins and signature items, and just plain ol' have fun in the snow.

NOTE:

The Date, Location, and Time will NOT change.
DATE: Saturday - February 21, 2009
TIME : 09:00 am - 4:00 pm (Lunch at noon)
LOCATION: Adirondack Hotel (Long Lake, NY)

This will be a Lunch-Plus Geocaching event. We will have lunch at the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake. Note: You are not required to eat at the hotel, there are other venues in town.

Feel free to come up the night before or early in the morning of the event and cache until Sunday. Many geocachers do just that. It has become the tradition.

I will be flooding the area with new caches just before the event. A small number will go live Friday and a small number will go live Sunday for those geocachers staying the entire weekend. The majority of the caches will go live Friday evening for those cachers coming up to cache Saturday for the event. In addition, I plan on having a few Flash Mob events over the span of the weekend.

February can be a month of much snow. If you have snowshoes or cross-country skies - do bring them (Not needed - but will help). Long Lake is also a great place to snowmobile. Many of the caches will be accessible via a snowmobile. If you own a snowmobile, do bring it.

Did I tell you the event was in the ADKs in mid-winter? :)

RSVP with a will attend. If you would like to eat lunch at the hotel, please state so in your will attend, so as I can give the Hotel owners weekly updates just before the event - as to how many heads they can expect for lunch. You are not required to eat your lunch at the hotel, but it would surely help the Hotel and the community if you chose to eat your
lunch there. This description is an interim description and will
most likely change over time. I am writing this quickly now, so I might get it posted as soon as possible to give more people time to schedule it in. The date, times, and location will NOT change.

Please place a watch on this event. The description will change over time. Again, the date, time & location will not change.

If you are coming up Friday before Saturday's event, and would like to join use at the Hotel for a Meet, Greet, and a Drink, please consider attending this event

We are going to do something different this year. Instead of having a drawing for prizes, we are going to have a Geocache Container contest instead.

Geocache Container contest.
Bring a geocache to the event to be judged by the viewing audience (event attendees). The prizes will be donated by me.

Here are the categories:

- Best Overall
- Most Creative
- Best Craftsmanship

You can enter more than one container.

The cache needs to be constructed in such a way that it could actually be placed as a cache (must be able to stand up to the elements without falling apart or leaking).

It must contain a log book and should be given a cache name (written on the log book).

When you check in and enter your cache container , you will be assigned a number.

This number will be written on the first page of the log.

One voting slip will be handed to each person when they check in.

When you vote, you will use the number on the first page of the log to indicate which cache you are voting for. Write this number next to the category on your slip.

Hope to see you here in Long Lake!
