Geocache Description:

Cache in the Kloofendal Nature Reserve above Confidence Reef. Perhaps you'll find gold.....a cache at least.

In 1884, the Struben brothers, Fred and Harry, discovered what looked like the first payable seam of gold. They named the mine Confidence Reef. In the end, the mine only lasted a year. They however made enough money that Fred was able to retire. Harry, continued to work and became the first president of the Chamber of Mines in 1887.

Today, the mine is surrounded by the Kloofendal Nature reserve. Small game has been reintroduced into the reserve, and there are plans to introduce zebra, black wildebeest, and blesbok this year. The reserve also has a bird hide and numerous trails. Entrance is free.

To reach the cache, you will need to make your way past the amphitheatre from the parking and enter the gate to the reserve. Sneak your way through the wild woods to the national monument, from there proceed through an enchanted indigenous forest and protea clusters before climbing the hill. There is no direct route, and you will need to snake your way up the long S-curves. Follow the "radiation" line and then proceed through the alien graveyard to reach the cache. The cache is in the usual ice-cream container covered with a black bag. The cache hunt should take between 60-80 minutes.

The paths are clear, except for one overgrown section. The paths snake up the hill, don't take any shortcuts.

You should follow the path until you reach: S26º 08.107' E27º 52.726'
From here, you can hop along the rocks to the cache

Tracks:

You can download tracks for a path to the above waypoint Here

The track is available in TXT, Ozi, and Mapsource (V5 & V6) formats. The Mapsource files include waypoints for parking, gate, monument, and cache
