Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Village Creek and requires a boat to get to it, unless you have acess to some private properties. Be sure to wear a life jacket. Chance put in a 9-key signature item and a gone fishing TB and I put in a Doc Gilbo FTF coin, and a couple of other geo coins of mine.

The Story.

Our mission was to go in at Baby Galvez and go up-river 3 1/2 miles to Hwy 327. After putting in at Baby Galvez We were making slow but steady progress on our mission to place caches all the way up to Hwy 327. But the current became more swift the further up-river we went, soon, our boat became crippled as we fought our way upstream against the swift current using only paddles and a worn-out trolling motor.

We were hoping to make it around a peninsula that lay ahead on our left believing maybe the current would be less relentless if could make it around it.

We were able to make slow progress against the current until we were about 200 yards down river from the tip of the peninsula, at that point all progress was halted as we were only able to maintain a stationary position in the water, hovering in one place as if an invisible wall were set before us. We were forced to go ashore, falling 2 miles short of our goal.

Curious as to what lay beyond the peninsula, we ventured out and discovered a path that led us to the peninsula's furthest peak.

Once there we saw what we could not have expected, "The Devil's Pitchfork".

No map showed a convergence of creeks at this point, but there it was.

The Devils Pitchfork is where 2 unlisted creeks , possibly a Mill Creek extension and an unlisted creek, converge into Village Creek making the shape of a pitchfork. I decided to call this union The Devil's Pitchfork, because the 3 creeks' convergence make a current so swift that we became crippled in the water and were forced to abandon any further hopes of completing our mission upriver. Looking from a tall bluff near the waters edge on this peninsula we realized we were right, if we could have made it around the peninsula, we would have gotten past "The Devil's Pitchfork".

I recommend coming down the creek from 327 and with Baby Galvez, Hwy 96 or some other spot as an exit. It will sure save a lot of work.
At the cache site, you can look out from the bluff mentioned above, and clearly see "The Devil's PitchFork".

If and when you do visit this cache, bow your head in reverence in memory of the mission that it doomed.
