Geocache Description:

Welcome to:

This cache is like nothing you have ever encountered. (Unless you have found any other caches before now.) Before you go you will need to make the appropriate preparations, both mental and physical.

the tuber fends off a snake with his trusty torch

The quest for the elusive [insert burst of dramatic music here] Torch Tuber will require you to walk hundreds of feet from your car to the cache [insert high-pitched girly scream here]. You will need to allow sufficient time to complete the search: if you do not allot a minimum of fifteen minutes [insert gasp of shock here] for this hunt, you may go home disappointed.

This cache will be as difficult as you choose to make it. If you go straight from your car to the cache, it will be a single-stage traditional. But if you choose to walk up to the cache, walk away, and walk up to it again, you can turn it into a two-stage multicache. If you think you are up to it, you can repeat this to-and-fro maneuver five times for a five-stage multi!

If you have any fear of ponds, rocks, trees, little wooden bridges, chirping birds, tiny insects, ammo cans, or plastic tubers, then you may want to avoid this geocache. You will encounter at least one (and possibly all) of these elements during the hunt.

If you do suffer from plastictuberphobia and attempt this cache anyway, be advised that the risk is solely yours. We cannot accept responsibility for your ill-advised, reckless behavior.

Things you should bring with you:

  • sturdy shoes
  • flashlight
  • cell phone
  • bug spray
  • first-aid kit
  • sleeping bag
  • tent
  • rope
  • tent stakes
  • hammer
  • firewood
  • matches
  • cooler filled with ice and beverages
  • graham crackers
  • Hershey bars
  • marshmallows
  • lawn chairs
  • harmonica or guitar

When you reach the parking area, leave all that stuff in your car. Except the shoes; make sure you wear those. If and when you manage to complete this arduous cache, go somewhere and reward yourself with an overnight campout; sit around the fire and make S'mores, and sing songs of your valiant conquest of the Torch Tuber. Use the cell phone the next morning to call in sick to work. You deserve a day to recover.

Parking:The trailhead is on Wattaquadock Hill Road in Bolton, at coordinates N 42° 25.107, W 71° 38.906, by the sign for "Fyfeshire Conservation". There is room for a couple of cars to park by the entrance. If the Torch Tuber does not completely sap you of all your caching strength, you can also find the Fyfeshire Conservation cache nearby.

The cache is initially stocked with several different kinds of "torches" (flashlights of various shapes and sizes).

Please do not remove Torch Tuber from the cache. (You can take him out for photo-ops, but please return him to the cache when you're done.)

*** Any similarity between this cache and the world-famous, slightly more difficult Tube Torcher cache in North Carolina is purely coincidental.

No tubers were harmed in the creation of this cache.
