Deceangi: Rather than keep this cache temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly unarchive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Geocache Description:

A chance to visit the Iron-Age hill fort of Loughton Camp.

This cache is on the London Geocaching Tube Map

This cache is part of a series planted for the cache bash on 5th April 2003.

This Iron Age hill fort and another in the forest at Ambresbury Banks are rumoured to have been camps used by Boudicca queen of the Iceni who rebelled against roman rule in the 1st century A.D. click here for the full story.

The "hillfort" is roughly oval in shape. It encloses 2.6 hectares and occupies the end of a spur with extensive views to the south (when all the trees were chopped down!) a stream rising in marshy ground in the south-east corner is an unusual feature. The steep hill slope on the W and SW adds to the strength of the single V shaped ditch (2.7meters deep). The original entrance has not been identified.

This cache is designed to be hard to find - it is a Micro containing just a logbook and pencil, it is not in a standard cache container and is under significant tree cover ....Good-Luck. the clue is split into several parts so as not to make things too easy straight away.

Please check out the G.A.G.B and G:UK web sites. They offer support for all Geocachers in the UK.
