This small 1613 foot mountain is one of our favorite winter hikes and we do it every year for the outstanding views.
This is a hybrid letterbox cache. There are two log books, one for the geocache, the other for your letterbox stamp.
Park in the upper parking lot behind the Eagle Mountain House on Route 16B in Jackson, NH. The trail starts from the parking area as a cross country ski trail, but shortly reaches the Eagle Mountain hiking trail on the right. The cache is accessible and doable year round. The views are better in the Winter. However, if you are going to do it in the Winter you will need creepers, instep crampons or snowshoes with crampons for the short steep pitch near the summit. We have rated the terrain as 4.5 for the Winter because of the liklihood of ice on the steep pitch making it dangerous without proper equipment. It is no more than a 3.0 in Summer. The hike is less than a mile through very pleasant woods. Jackson, NH is one of the premier cross-country skiing areas in the United States and you should see many skiiers if you go in the Winter.
