Geocache Description:

This is an old reliable ammo can hidden among the rocks near the Dulzura Conduit’s flume along State Route 94.

Around the turn of the last century the 11-mile long Dulzura Conduit was constructed of concrete channels, wooden flumes, steel pipes and tunnels to link the Cottonwood Creek/Pine Creek watersheds with Lower Otay Lake.

In 1995, the old, deteriorated wooden flumes were torn down and replaced with metal troughs and frameworks. The sections of the flumes used in the renovation were transported over the rough terrain by helicopter. The last registered flow through the conduit was six years later on 08/15/2001.

The cache has been moved from its original location to N 32 37.214, W 116 43.646. This is a much more accessible location but still a little precarious so please be careful and have fun.

There is not one approach easier than another and there is more than one parking option available as well. Evaluate your options and choose the best for you and your abilities. A water bottle, a sense of adventure and a sharp eye for rattlesnakes are required.

In addition to a pen and a log, the original cache contents include:

Micro G-Tech Mini-flashlight
Cap gun
Vampire fangs (Halloween you know)
Protractor set
Pencil sharpener
Red Durango (Matchbox type)
All guarded by a large tarantula
