The cache is up in a tree and is easy to get at. Just undo the rope and lower down.
The contents of the cache are: five cadet ballcaps, nine CF buttons, three XII
Manitoba Dragoons shoulder flashes, ten Royal Canadian Army Cadet shoulder flashes, one map of Manitoba, one Cadet Experience Book, one Airborne Medallion, one Canadian quarter,
two pages of jokes from Cadet Langlois, three homemade pot holders for hot bowls or tea
pots, one CACHE LOGBOOK with pen, some matches,
The cache is in a five gallon white plastic sealed pail.
It truly is a valley forest when you get into it. This area has never been touched by humans.
It's untouched prairie wilderness.
To access the forest you first have to hike along a field. Do not cut across it.
The co-ordinates were rechecked on January 20th. The averaging time was 18 minutes. Surprisingly, there were six to eight satellites above while just last week we could only get three.
The strongest co-ordinates are: 49 degrees 52.171 N - 100 degrees 50.096 W. I sat on a log for 18 minutes to make sure it was right. It was amazing to see it get more and more accurate as I waited. Anyhow, have fun!
Do not access this cache during deer hunting season. Not smart.
Wear bells or make a lot of noise during the forest portion of your quest. This is the home of
bears, cougars, and coyotes plus deer. Never get between a bear and her cubs ... make noise.
Take water with you. There's no water at the cadet cabin. There is an outhouse at the
cadet cabin site if nature calls you. Bring you own TP.
Visit Virden. Virden has an RCMP Detachment (12 Members). Virden also has a hospital with
two ambulances on call. Fire Station Number One is located in Virden. They have a Fire Rescue unit, a quick response unit, and heavy pumpers. Town water is very safe. The emergency number is 911.
Take people with you. Don't do this by yourself. Remember to make noise in the forest.
On July 10th, 2003 the cache was revisited and completely dried out and so to were the contents of the cache. The cache is hung up in a tree. We have replaced the rope. There are now two BOB radio station posters on either side of the cache. The cache is covered with two green garbage bags to keep it dry.
Park on the south side of the bridge...that's the side closer to Virden.
You need your GPS to get out of the forest. You can easily get turned around in the forest. Use your GPS or have a compass with you.
