Geocache Description:

Here's a qualifier for the Washington Forest Fire Lookout Challenge.

Smoothing Iron was home to an emergency lookout cabin constructed about 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It never did evolve in to more than an occasionally used station. Panoramic photos were taken from the site in August of 1935, and it was still listed on the 1948 Umatilla National Forest map as an "emergency lookout." Not a trace of the cabin can be found today, but the wonderful view of the South Fork of the North Fork Asotin Creek and Devils Tailbone Ridge remain.

Access is off Forest Road 44. You'll need to park and walk across an open, grassy area to get to the site.

You're seeking a small snaplock plastic container.
