This is what the old men told me when I was a boy…"children must be good to their families, or the Cherokee Little People will come and take them away." You probably don’t believe me, but the story is true. A little Cherokee boy named Scott was always very bad to his friend Michelle. He would pull her hair and not let her play with him and his friends. Scott’s mother warned him, but he did not believe the Little People would take him away. One afternoon on a day that he was particularly cruel to the little girl, Scott felt a strong desire to stray out into the deepest part of the forest. It was almost as if the trees were calling his name. He walked and walked, as if he were in a dream. Soon, he came to a place in the forest that he had never been before he was suddenly very frightened. Voices whispered from the treetops. They called his name and spoke of his bad manners and his constant taunting. Scott thought carefully about what he should do. He decided it would be best to leave his most prized possessions in the forest to appease the Little People, so he emptied his pockets, swore a sacred oath never to display bad manners or taunt others cruelly, and sprinted toward the east and hopefully home to safety. The Little People found his possessions and cleverly hid them in the forest for others to enjoy. In order to find these possessions you must have exceptional manners and live your life with a kind and true heart. Will you accept their challenge to go and find them? Be careful if you accept this challenge for if you wander into the woods with out the purest of intentions you may just hear your voice being called by the Cherokee Little People."
