This cache is located on a trail at Seed Savers Heritage Farm north of Decorah, Iowa . The wooded trail that the cache is on goes uphill to the site of Col. Taylor's log home and continues further uphill to the historic orchards and beyond. The Farm is open to visitors from April to Dec. 23, M-F 9 to 5, weekends 10-5. If you decide to visit at any other time, please call 563-382-5990 during the weekday to see if it's ok to do so. The parking lot is NOT maintained during the non-season. BYOP.

(Cache is changed and moved from the original)

Seed Savers Exchange was founded in 1975 by Diane and Kent Whealy. Heritage Farm is the headquarters of Seed Savers Exchange, a non-profit organization. The farm is located six miles north of Decorah, Iowa. Nestled among sparkling streams, limestone bluffs, and century-old white pine woods, the 890-acre farm is a living museum of historic varieties. Thousands of heirlooms are grown in certified organic fields. The farm is home to Preservation Gardens, a Historic Orchard, heritage poultry, and Ancient White Park Cattle. (For more information, their website is www.seedsavers.org.)

To reach the cache, drive US Highway 52 north from Decorah. Turn right onto the North Winn Road, which is County Road W34. The entrance to Seed Savers has a sign. The trail to follow (one of several on the farm) starts at a small bridge on the right side of the parking lot or use alternate entrance at the top of the hill (43 22 702N, 091 48 372 W). The sign says "Heritage Farm 1/4 Mile Ahead" from the south and "Historic Orchard" from the north]. Park by the orchard (and don't forget to check it out).

Heritage Farm is private property, but visitors are invited and encouraged. The “open season” is from April to December 23. Hours are 9-5 M-F, 10-5 weekends. There are lots of interesting items at the gift shop (not to mention seeds), and there are restrooms!. If you decide to visit beyond the listed season and times, please call 563-382-5990 during the weekday to make sure it's ok.

The trails are not maintained in the winter months, but this trail is marked with signs which contain a description of the local nature and historical sites. After finding the cache, you can continue further up the trail to the Historical Orchard.

The cache is a silver nano. The area is wooded, but sky is visible. It is near the ruins of Col. John W. Taylor's summer resort log home built in 1865-66. He was a land speculator of frontier lands.
