The geographical centre of the Island "could` be the Old Tynwald Hill, just a few hundred yards north of St. Luke's church in Baldwin, where it is recorded that in 1429 the court of Tynwald was held. The site of this CENTRE cache is located a couple of miles north. Please see NORTH, SOUTH, WEST and EAST for the others in the series.
First of all, ... get out your walking boots! Although it's not the most demanding of walks, the ground can be a bit boggy in places; especially as you ascend the hill. After parking your car, head along the greenway track for about 1,000 yards until you reach the Millennium Way. Continue along for another 225 yards and you'll pass through a gate. From here, your GPS should indicate the most direct route to the cache, following the tractor marks. Once you get to the cairn, stop to take in the view before heading to the cache.
The above coordinates are for the parking area; not the cache itself. The degrees for the longitude and latitude are of course N54 and W004 (as it is for all the Isle of Man). The minute and seconds figures for the longitude and latitude can be found on labels under the lid of each of the NORTH, SOUTH, WEST and EAST boxes (you'll need all of them in order to have the full coordinates of this CENTRE cache).
The cache is a small plastic box with the usual log-book and enough room for small swaps and TB's etc. Alternative parking is available at the coordinates below for one car only. After parking up, walk along the road to the bend, then carry on walking in a straight line and you will join the greenway track after a couple of hundred yards. Please replace the cache exactly as found, and as usual, WATCH OUT FOR MUGGLES!
The views from the site of the cache over the Baldwin Valley and Injebreck Reservoir are worth the effort of the walk itself. Sit in peace for a while and enjoy it ... and Happy caching!
